Service Description
This World War ll class will be a combination of history, literature, and art! We will read youth-appropriate graphic novels, short stories, and first-hand accounts of the war through diverse perspectives and will study art created during the same time period. We will learn visual literacy skills and terms, talk about the role of propaganda during the war, and explore the ways that art and storytelling can help people to make sense of the hardships of war. We may do some writing and art-making of our own, too! Note: Some knowledge of World War II is helpful but not required for students in the class. The instructor will work hard to give children age-appropriate information and space to process what they’re learning about, but please be aware that topics related to war and conflict are central to our studies and may be challenging for sensitive students.
