(ages 10-14) 1:45-3 PM Instructor: Justin Nordin
Service Description
Our modern culture is characterized by the rapid transmission of information through ever evolving technology. With various news channels, websites, and social media outlets, it can be hard to get your bearings straight. What is fact and what is fiction? Who is telling the truth and who is lying? Is truth even possible anymore? In this class students will learn the thinking skills necessary to navigate this increasingly complex and digital world. We will discuss how to evaluate the credibility of information and fact check sources, how to construct strong arguments and identify weak ones, and how to identify fake news sources. We will also discuss the essence of knowledge, asking questions like: Where does knowledge comes from? How can we know when we have it? How do we justify our beliefs? What conditions are necessary for knowledge to be attained?
