The Art of Writing Creatively
(ages 9-12) 10:30-11:45 AM Instructor: Lesli Santillan
Service Description
This class will foster a love of writing using visual art to inspire students. Students will observe and analyze different pieces of art, and express their interpretations of the artwork through a variety of writing styles. Students will convey their thoughts, feelings, and ideas through words. They will further engage by using elements such as character development and plot through different types of writing (journaling, poetry, mini scripts, short stories, comics and graphic novels). Students will share and evaluate their own writing and that of their peers as a member of a safe and supportive community of writers. No students will be forced to read aloud or share their writing unless they want to. Note that this class will not repeat lessons from last semester, but rather introduce writing techniques through the study of art. Students who took writing last semester will be able to build on skills learned last semester while developing new ones. Students need not have taken writing last semester to take this class.
