Exploring History Through Silly Things
(ages 6-10) 12:15-1:30 PM Instructor: Lynn Gilbertsen
Service Description
In this class, we will develop our understanding of the world by studying everyday silly things. Exploring one specific object each week, we‘ll see how and why humans developed them across time and culture, learn about human beliefs and needs, and see how they have changed. We will study objects like bubble gum, wigs, cereal, video games, ice cream, umbrellas, high heels, footballs, popcorn, zippers, and other interesting things. Our studies will include books on each topic, but the class is accessible to both readers and non-readers. Students will engage with pictures, timelines, and maps during class and will build their own long timeline, adding a little to it each week.
