Service Description
Moral Philosophy, sometimes called ethics, is all about figuring out what we ought to do and why we ought to do it and that will be the focus of this Ethics and Debate class. Students will be introduced to some of the biggest ideas in moral philosophy and even read excerpts from major philosophers. They'll learn what it means to say that Kant is a deontologist, what consequentialism and utilitarianism are, and how to decide if they are virtuous. But we won't just stick to theory, instead students will have multiple opportunities to take what they have learned and try to apply it to realistic scenarios. Throughout the semester, we'll have Ethics Bowl style debates using cases from the official NHSEB case library where students will not only get to think more deeply about the philosophical theories they've learned about, but they'll also learn how to engage in respectful debate. *Homework will be requested weekly
