Service Description

See Mary's video promo for class at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yuT8eCFOY8&feature=youtu.be Instructor Mary Poole has adapted the Big History Curriculum for ages 9-11. This curriculum is a great starting point for young children to gain a big picture of world history, while zeroing in on various fascinating events that make them life-long observers and inquisitive learners. This semester will cover early civilizations through today. It is not necessary to have taken semester 1 to sign up for semester 2. In this class, students will experience a wide variety of different learning techniques from giving presentations on the week's topic, to playing relevant history-themed games, to making up commercials for famous historical figures, and more. There will be home learning activities each week as well (usually watching a short youtube video or reading an article). Goals include (a) enticing students into loving history (b) teaching students how to interact kindly and respectfully amongst students with opposing views (c) helping students to understand, relate to, and retain material This class is in-person and meets at IPHG. Students taking this course at IPHG will also have the option of joining Mary's additional online zoom classes each week and optional field trips! Zoom sessions will not be redundant because different things will be done in the zoom session than in the in-person class.
