Service Description
Note: This is 10 week class. Class ends November 10th. In this ten-week class, we will explore a different country of the world each week. During each class, we will find the country of the week on a map, create a flag to take home, and make an art project or food that represents the culture of that country. At the end of class, participants will also receive four trading cards with places to visit in Chicago related to each culture that can help your child extend their learning through an experiential family field trip. *Materials are included in the cost of this class. Class Schedule Week 1 – September 8, 2022: Brazil, to coincide with Brazilian Independence Day on September 7. Week 2 – September 15, 2022: China, to correspond with the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, also called the Moon Festival or the Mooncake Festival, on Sep. 10. Week 3 – September 22, 2022: Egypt, to correspond with the equinox on this day where the sun aligns with points on the Sphinx and the Great Pyramids of Giza. Week 4 – September 29, 2022: Haiti, to correspond with one of the early founding of Chicago in late September 1833 that was made possible by the Haitian founder of Chicago, Jean Baptiste Du Sable. Week 5 – October 6, 2022: Germany, to correspond with Oktoberfest Week 6 – October 13, 2022: Thailand, to correspond with the Lotus Throwing Festival called Rab Bua in October. Week 7 – October 20, 2022: India, to correspond with Diwali, which is Oct. 24 Week 8 – October 27, 2022: Mexico, to correspond with Dia de los Muertos on Oct. 31. Week 9 – November 3, 2022: South Africa, to correspond with South African International Kite Festival in early November Week 10 – November 10, 2022: Norway and Denmark About Lynn: Lynn is the creator of Around the World in Chicago, a series of immersive fields trips around Chicagoland to recreate the feeling of being in another country. Lynn has 14 years of experience teaching K-12.
Cancellation Policy
We keep our classes small to enhance learning outcomes. Because of this, it is important that our classes are filled up with students that are committed to the class. If you have questions about a class, please contact us prior to signing up to make sure the class will meet your expectations. Classes can ONLY be dropped within the first two weeks of the semester. There is a $65 fee if dropped within the first week of class. There is an $80 fee if dropped within the second week of class. The remaining balance after dropping will be refunded. Classes CANNOT be dropped after the second week of scheduled classes. After the second week of scheduled classes no refund will be given. To drop a class please email iphglearning@gmail.com IPHG reserves the right to cancel any class. In the event IPHG cancels class is canceled before beginning, a credit to be applied for future semesters will be given. Credit will be for the value of the canceled class.
